Regina, SK - Nathan Rourke, quarterback for the BC Lions, has been named the Canadian Football League's (CFL) Most Outstanding Player (MOP) for the 2022 season. Rourke has had a remarkable season, breaking numerous records and leading the Lions to a playoff berth.
The 24-year-old pivot led the CFL in passing yards (4,369), touchdowns (33), and completion percentage (78.3%). He also rushed for 499 yards and seven touchdowns, making him the first player in CFL history to throw for over 4,000 yards and rush for over 400 yards in a season.
"It's an incredible honour," said Rourke. "I couldn't have done it without my teammates, coaches, and the support of the fans. This award is a reflection of all the hard work we put in this season."
Rourke's season was one for the ages. He became the first quarterback in CFL history to throw for over 500 yards in three straight games and also set a new record for the most 300-yard passing games in a season (10).
The BC Lions finished the regular season with a 12-6 record, good for second place in the West Division. They will host the Calgary Stampeders in the Western Semi-Final on November 6.
